Decent enough while it lasts.

User Rating: 5.9 | Army Men: Air Attack 2 PS
The wild blue yonder… the limitless landscape that so many dream of soaring across unbound by the earth’s gravity, where the only things in you path are the clouds across the endless blue. Oh, and lets not forget the Tan Airforce.

Army Men Air Attack 2 is now on a system near you. That’s right, those army men you’ve been afraid to take out since the release of Nightmares and Dreamscapes are invading your playstation. This game takes place right after the first one, where your good old buddy, Baron von Beige has returned and is flipping mad over your previous triumph over him. Oh yeah, and there’s also General Plastro, but all he does throughout the game is complain about how you keep destroying his factories and stealing his toys.

The gameplay is quite decent since it has such a variety of what you can choose in your next attack. You’re given five different co-pilots, each with their own unique weapon, to storm the Tan forces along side with as well as five different helicopters, which each also have their own unique missile attacks. The down-side though is that you have to earn them all, and there are only so many missions in the game for you to get used to them. An example is that Sarge is probably the coolest co-pilot you can ask for and so is his co-pilot weapon (I choose him over Woodstock everyday). But you only get two missions to play with him and then you’re in the mission where you fight His Highness, the Tan Baron and you’re required to have Bombshell as your co-pilot, and her napalm bomb barely does anything to him. It’s only a good thing that you’re not required to fly the King Cobra against the Tan Baron, or this game would only be unbeatable.

While the gameplay is certainly something to make you happy that you’re a fighter of the Green Nation, the graphics will make you wish they were something to celebrate as well. Everything is purely 3D and makes each level feel like you’re playing one of your younger brother’s kiddy computer games. The cut-scenes will not only make you wish for improvements in graphics as well, but you’ll also wish they had hired better acting as well.

If you’re a fan of the Army Men series or just looking for an alternative to another WWII flight game, this will be a nice little addition for you to take to the skies. But since there are only 22 short missions in this game, it takes only a few days to complete, so don’t expect to be fully satisfied.
