So for the alpha has been loads of fun. It tends to have low frame rates that appear to be cause by an under utilization of the CPU but it is an alpha. you can't judge a game when it hasn't been released yet.

looks decent. I would suggest getting rid of 3rd person, and going full 1st person everything. Swimming looks unrealistic/not simulation.
Even though its in Alpha stage, I'm still disappointed in how bad the graphics are. For a war simulator I expect extremely photorealistic environments with today's technology, especially for a PC exclusive. The horrible textures, explosions, smoke effects, and aliasing in the video are just atrocious. On top of that the frame-rate was no where near 60 fps although I don't know what set up Gamespot uses. Hopefully by the time this game goes gold it will look like a true PC exclusive and really impress gamers with its visuals to go along with excellent gameplay and top notch sound design. Or else it will be an embarrassment, sadly.

Needs more graphics, shout powers, hotkeys, double exp weekends, smokin hot computer babes and meatheads cursing. Then maybe I'll play it, maybe.
More graphics? Dude, this is the most advanced and photorealistic engine to day. Truth be told, I can't play this either, too "simulatory" for my taste, but I enjoy some Let's Plays on Youtube now and then. @lexyz1992 @LatinproX yes, una arma or a wepaon is Spanish. Usually some kind of firearm, whereas a knife or sword would be espada or cuchillo. I appreciate your knowledge. It`s cool to hear from someone that is not trolling and is actually cultured.
The game runs well but having said that the alpha is only twenty square kilometers and I think the final game is two hundred and ninety square kilometers. So there is still a lot more for your hardware to handle when the full game is released. :)
So far its looking amazing,I got the alpha yesterday and even though my PC is around 4 years old now it runs the game as well as Arma 2 but it feels way more optimized,and for an alpha release that´s already gret news.

I love the concept of this game. It's what I want from a shooter (I really hate games like CoD and Halo). The problem is that ArmA 2 was just too clunky to play. And by that I mean the controls.
This game preaches more refined controls, but I don't want to be laying down money on a game that I can't return and may not enjoy.
So my question is, will there be an open Beta or Demo at some point, where I can try the game out before I buy it? Also, will I need a high-end PC in order to play it? (I plan to get one in the future, but for now my PC isn't exactly amazing).
@BravoOneActual I doubt it but I loved the series. Bohemia Interactive was the only reason that I purchased the first Xbox. I just hope this game makes it to the next gen consoles.
@thomasonfa @BravoOneActual i don't think so, this game has more controls then other games, and it requires a lot more processing power then most, and at both these things the consoles fail
@thomasonfa @BravoOneActual Ironically, it may be consoles that put it over the top. OpFlash: Elite was a triumph. My Xbox copy is not for sale.
I really don't see a console port as a stretch. There is a precedent with Elite and Gaea Mission already exists for 360. Maximizing the DayZ buck means potential console ports as well. Don't be surprised if it happens.
I love this. I've been playing for hours already. Got my list of bugs and uploaded them to devs as they have so humbly asked everyone to do. I'll stick to this game all the way because I know its going to be the best simulator in the world when it's finally done.. Call of Duty can eat my ass.
1 Like For those that don't know much about the series, the game was (probably still is?) based on a simulation engine designed for use by real world militaries. I think that is one of the key reasons it always lacked some of the polish we would expect in a video game. You can watch videos of people playing ArmA in a role playing style, where they actually follow orders, chain of command, radio protocol, etc. I'm not sure I'd get that deep into the roles, but I still think it's really cool to see. The game has always had flaws, some annoyances and even some issues that reduce the realism as others have pointed out. Despite all that, I believe it's still the closest you will get to military realism in a video game.
If you look at it from that perspective, it shows why the game is and always will be (as long as they don't decide to take the name and totally changed the game :) ) not so mainstream. It also makes the game very difficult to report on, review, etc. in relation to other games. It's almost pointless to bother making comparisons to any other military game. You could examine specific elements, like ballistics, or weapon customization , or movement and accuracy, etc. , and compare them to other niche tactical games, although many of those would also fall outside the mainstream and be largely unknown to most gamers. ArmA as a whole however, the overall scope and the combination of elements, there's virtually no other game to compare to.
If it's anything like the previous ARMA games which it appears to be, the problem wont be it's "realism" or difficulty, it be it's horrible controls, combat feel, and poorly designed systems such as inventory. I don't see how games that tout themselves as being sims can get away with feeling clunky when feeling fluid and having ease of use would mean it's MORE REALISTIC; real life has the best and simplest controls of all.
might as well join the army. meh. Operation Flashpoint was nicer. it combined sim and arcade.
