Let's pretend the "Gothic 4" isn't part of the game's title...

User Rating: 8.5 | Arcania: Gothic 4 PC
I consider myself a very hardcore RPG gamer since I started with the original pencil-and-paper RPGs from AD&D and eventually played some of the early (and ridiculously difficult) PC RPGs. Assuming that Arcania isn't really a "Gothic" game and reviewing it as a standalone product on its own, I must say that it is a beautiful entry-level RPG. The elements are there, basic character customization, random quests, and something of a story to get you started.

Let me dissect this by categories:

Graphics:
Absolutely beautiful, perhaps not as "breathtaking" as some of the screenshots would have you believe, but they are very colorful and have that "fantasy" feel to them. They do come with bugs here and there, but that's

Sound:
I score is great IMO, the tunes give the game a real sense of medieval adventure.

Gameplay:
As I mentioned before, it's a great entry level RPG, the normal difficulty does seem very easy; the combat play is rather simplistic, but it does feel more action-oriented than RPG.

Conclusion:
I do recommend this game to anyone who likes RPGs but isn't into them as much as I am, it's no Dragon Age, and it's no Gothic, but Arcania stands well on its own.
