End of Darkness is a poorly made sequel to Twilight of Spirits which far surpasses this disapointment with bad gameplay.

User Rating: 6.1 | Arc the Lad: End of Darkness PS2
In Arc the Lad: End of Darkness you begin as a young boy named Edda on an island called Cragh Island in which the Humans and the Deimos live in perfect harmony unlike most of the known world. You might notice if you have played it but End of Darkness takes place in the same world and only a few years after Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits. Although Similar and connected in storyline these games are very different when it comes to gameplay so do not confuse this. As you live her peacefully on this island one day some hunters show up looking for someone and they were heading to a cave in which a "malademon" a demon unkillable that can only be stopped by a exorcist is commonly known to be at. Edda being the sole survivor of a long line of exorcists was asked by the village elder to go with the hunters in case it shows up but the hunters refused the help of Edda. The village elder asked Edda to go anyhow and he found all the hunters dead in the cavern and ended up exorcizing the malademon and in doing this decided he being the only surviving exorcist must travel the world and try to rid it of this malademon threat that only he can help so he decided to become a hunter.

This game is an action RPG in which you travel around maps or dungeons doing certain missions. Throughout the game you increase in what rank of Hunter you are, depending on what rank you are from trainee to hero you get different jobs and storyline missions to do so the story is very dependent on your rank. Unlike it's predecessor Twilight of the Spirits it is not a strat RPG this game revolves less around strategy and more around fighting alone as a single unit through either fields of enemies and malademons or bosses. Although neither genre are better perse End of Darkness has a very simple combat system with very few moves, specials, spells, and combos to use so it limits the gameplay.

Unlike similar games such as God of War or Devil may Cry in which you have a combo system where you can do different combos and/or various weapons with different combos to keep a variety in the gameplay, End of Darkness's atempt at this would probably be character cards. Now character cards once you find them and use them allows you to play as a new character most of these new characters are all of the playable characters in Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits but there are other various new characters that you can get as well. Now each characters has different stats such as magic, stregnth, and tech to show what they are best at magic for mages, stregnth for fighters, and tech for people who use tech items such as bombs these stats only increase with items equipped because there is no gaining levels in this game only ranks which increase how much mana you can have at one time.

The other difference is that each character card is obviously a different person so they all have different combos although yet again every character only has one combo so there isn't much variety also they all have a special attack but the main character has 3 of them. Although this system allows you to play as all of your favorite characters from the previous game Twilight of the Spirits such as Darc, Kharg, Volk, Delma, Maru, and many more it lacks in variety still which can make the game very boring and on top of that you must use the main character on all of the story missions so it is kind of restricting.

Graphically End of Darkness is the exact same as Twilight of the Spirits and although the game was good after 3 years you would think they would go through the trouble of giving a graphic update. Me being one who could care less about graphics rarely rant about a game badly due to graphics but unless it is for nostalgic or artistic value 3 years is quite a bit for no graphics update for a sequel and i think this game doesn't hit either of those 2 graphically. The music on the other hand was fairly mediocre there was nothing to complain about just a decent score of songs very familiar to Twilight of the Spirits and some of the songs seemed to be recycled from it as well which if done correctly can be a good thing.

Arc the Lad: End of Darkness in my opinion although a slightly entertaining game was just the milking of the Arc the Lad series putting out a below average game to make money slightly more money off of the series. The only reason i would suggest picking up and playing this game is either you loved the first game and loved the characters so you wanted to play another game that had the same story and charcters in it or you got it for free or you paid no more than $10 for it at the most. For me both of these reasons were present would I take back playing it if i could? I'm not sure but regreting things is a waste of time I would rate Arc the Lad: End of Darkness a 6.1 out of 10 for a fairly entertaining very cheap game that includes the characters of a very good game with good characters Twilight of Spirits but it has below average gameplay and a very lame and obvious storyline that nobody would find that interesting.
