Good for those who want to try something "different".

Let me get this out of the way before we cover anything else; Ape Escape 3 is intended for kids. It's pretty obvious once you start playing that this was intended for people 12 and younger. That doesn't mean it isn't any fun for older people; I found it to be interesting and different; it just means that older gamers may be turned off by the childish presentation. The two main characters are both in fourth grade, your health meter is a bunch of cookies, and the game is very careful to make sure it doesn't teach kids anything bad.

It is very fun, though. If you notice, the monkeys are dressed up as familiar characters from movies, and also makes many movie parodies. For example, one of the levels is called the "Immobile Castle", poking fun at the recently released Japanese "Moving Castle" movie. Also, you can find the couple from Beauty and the Beast in the ballroom, stylized like the movie. It's just so funny to see monkeys with big sirens attached to their heads pose in different scenarios.

Learning curve? It never ends!

Now for the controls. They are hard to get used to, but once you get the hang of things, they move nicely. The shooting controls are a bit wonky, though. I like the MGS minigame controls, because they're stylized like (what else) MGS!

In the end, it's all about opinion. It was nice to try something new, but I'll stick with more familiar grounds for now.
