A fun platformer that ultimately add nothing new to the genre.

User Rating: 6 | An American Tail: Fievel Goes West SNES
An American Tail: Fievel Goes West loosely follows the storyline of the film as it spans across 5 short, simple levels. Fievel's family decide to move to the West after emigrating to America in the first film. Little do they know, they are being deceived by a scheming cat. The graphics are well designed, with some nice, accurate character designs as well as bold, colourful backgrounds. The sound is what you would expect from such a game, with the usual sound effects (i.e. jumping noises, attacking etc.). the music features a western-themed score that does its job but won't leave you humming the tune afterwards. The gameplay is very simple, and would become very repetitive if the game wasn't so short. Fievel has only 2 moves: jump and shoot his gun. Hardly inventive. The only change to this is when Fievel receives a pickup in the form of a water gun. This is is used to extinguish burning platforms to advance. Much more thought could have been implemented into this game, but no one seemed to care enough to do so. The levels are well designed though for the most part and it is fun enough to play if you have a spare hour to waste. Lastability-wise, I don't see the game lasting any longer than said hour. It is obviously aimed at children and is short and very easy.
