A moderate game for basic horror fans searching for a mediocre game to entertain themselves. Read it before raging.
This game isn't scary... It's just another compilation of all these other run and hide horror games we've seen before put together. There's nothing new to be seen here, though Amnesia DOES have some interesting elements and creative scenes to be well... seen.
Beneath the creative elements, this is just another simple run away, solve puzzles, run away again, solve another puzzle horror game. The scares in this game were at best mediocre. The puzzles however, were amazing. This was not what I wanted however, I wanted a fun survival horror game, I'm not particularly a fan of games like these where your entire gameplay experience with enemies consists of running away from them, but since the reviews were so positive I thought I would give it a shot.
And I was right. The graphics are interesting though not particularly up to today's standard, this is over look-able though, as some areas in the game are so dark you don't even have a chance to notice some poor quality textures. Graphics don't make a game, but having nice visuals is always a plus. This however, was a miss.
The actual gameplay is as I have said above, run away from these types of 'monsters' and solve another puzzle and repeat. The variation and creative elements put into each puzzle are something of admiration. Though they can sometimes be confusing or frustrating, it's really quite satisfying when you DO solve a puzzle that you were stuck on.
The sound is amazing, great clear, crisp quality. This is however not a big part of games that I look at so I don't have much else to say. The music is what you would expect from a horror game.
All and all, this was an enjoyable experience, it was however scary. I bought this game hoping to be able to bring horror back into gaming, instead, I bought a puzzle game. A very good puzzle game at that however, this was not what I was expecting at all and I am incredibly disappointed with how many people said this game was the very definition of fear and hype such as that is what ultimately killed this game for me.
