One of the best action RPGs for the playstation.

User Rating: 9.1 | The Adventures of Alundra PS
Alundra is an addictive action RPG that may not deliver much flash, but makes up for it in its amazing gameplay.

You play as Alundra, a boy who is capable of entering people's dreams. It is through on of his dreams that he is told to go to a village called Inoa. On his way the ship wrecks, and Alundra is washed ashore near Inoa. He is then picked up by a man called Jesse who helps him recover and cares for Alundra as he was his own son. In Inoa people have been suffering from nightmares and soon the dreams will prove to be fatal. The game takes you on a journey into the villagers dreams and to the outskirts of Inoa to get to the bottom of the fatal dreams.

Gameplay: This is where Alundra really shines. It is very similar to Zelda games like A Link To The Past, but it is not simply a Zelda rip of. The game has more RPG elements than Zelda. You hack and slash, jump and solve puzzles. The action and the puzzles can be very challenging, but it never stops being fun. There are a lot of dungeons to explore and every single one of them presents new challenges, this way the dungeon crawling never gets boring.

Graphics: The graphics are pretty old school and reminds me of action RPGs for the SNES (especially Zelda), but at the same time they are beautiful. Nothing flashy, but the sprites look really good. The only gripe I have with the graphics is that sometimes it can be hard to judge distances, so when I want to jump from one block to another, it can sometimes take a lot of trying and dying.
The cg animated cut scenes, which are very scarce only an ending and an intro (that basically consists of scenes from the ending), are sweet.

Sound: The music is very good, presenting some really memorable tunes that fits the game nicely. Parts of the soundtrack are very melancholic and sinister, while others are more cheerful.

Value: The game should keep you busy for at least 40 hours. There are also a lot of secrets and sidetracking that can keep you busy for several hours. Just exploring the overworld is a great deal of fun and can suck a lot of time.

Behind the cute graphics lies a dark and sinister story that is presented in a very mature way. The story is great, and adds to the overall awesomeness of the game. I recommend this game to anyone, it's a fun, rewarding but challenging experience that will keep you busy for a long time.
