Sooo... Favourite area in the game?
I'd go with the final dungeon, just looks like a really nice castle, lol...

The Dreams. I love the dream sequences!

Hmm, I'd probably have to say the town of Inoa. Not only is it the main place where you interact with a lot of the townsfolk, which was one of the aspects I enjoyed a lot, but the atmosphere of the place changes quite a bit over the course of the game.
One thing I found kinda neat was that I even felt that way about Inoa's background theme. At the start it simply feels like a happy town theme, but it's kinda mellow as well, so it still fits well with the more serious and somber atmosphere later in the game.

I liked exploring the sanctuary with Septimus. It was like a cool mini dungeon, and made for some light-hearted fun between some of the more intense incidents that occur before and after. although, that was an awful lot of hassle that Ronan must have gone through everyday just to open the secret entrance to his batcave. There was enough running around to make an Umbrella employee jealous, if you know what I mean!
The twins' dream was very cool, as well, and a brilliant choice for the final dream dungeon. Loved smashing the mirrors to cross between the two dream worlds, and the female statues were a nice touch. I don't know if they were supposed to be statues of Rumi, or just some benevolent goddess figure, but they looked nice. Awesome soundtrack, too!
My least favourite area is probably Giles' nightmare. Its not the most frustrating dungeon in the game, but I thought it was the most disturbing. It had that kind of mucus texture on the walls, like walking inside a giant nose. A lot of the dungeons are nice looking, but that one I always want to get through quickly

yeah, the music in Nirude's lair suited the place well. It had that ominous soundtrack when you're looking up at the huge, mysterious statue, and once you're inside, its that panicky music that fits the personailities of the little guys perfectly.

I also like Tarns Manor. The first dungeon on this game, you finish so fast that leaves you wishing for more.

Mia's dream. I always felt as if I'd been there. By there I mean the pool areas specifically.. something about the set up. I don't know.
Not basing my vote on hazy memories or half remembered dreams, I'd choose the final dungeon.
And yes, this board can't die. I almost feel like spreading the word of Alundra to the SS board. Somehow, someday, I will personally make this game known.

I'd like to do my part to keep this topic going!
I'm finding it very difficult to pick a single favourite area of the game, but the first thought that came to mind was the beginning of the final palace - the atmosphere is very ominous until you get time started back up. It's very creepy in a good way.

Its tough to choose only one. So i'll tell another.
Lars Crypt. Even though i never figured out the saints puzzle. I always pass that by luck...

you're supposed to talk to the saints in order of "respect" so pay attention to how they suck up to eachother or criticize eachother (some of them praise themselves) so the one who receives the highest praise has to be spoken to last (i think its that order...)

woo, nice to see this is still going!
I hated that saints thing, playing the game as a kid, had no idea how to do it... worst part is my dad didn't get anywhere with it either... With no google I had to luck through it too, lol.
Was a nice read through the posts so keep the board going : )
Alundra needs more love !

i actually didn't do too badly with the saints thing on my first play, i pretty much got the gist when the saint up top tells you to speak to them in order of respect or whatever, then its a matter of taking notes of what they say about eachother, and sort it out from there.
What REALLY got on my t!ts was the "one step forward two steps back" puzzle. I knew it was something to do with going back and forth through those rooms, but i just was not getting it. I abandoned the game for months after failing it for the 20,0000th time, then just managed to read the answer in a tips book that i was flicking through in a game store one time and i came back and did it, and of course, it was right before that dungeon's boss!
Needless to say, it was a huge relief to have finally finished the crypt and be able to progress with the story.

^
Funny how each person reacts to different puzzles. I never had any trouble with that "step back room". As for the Saints, i knew you should speak to them in order of respect, but i always mess up.
After Lars Crypt, the game just keep getting easy for me. Until i get to the Ice Manor. I should confess that in my last playthrough i checked a faq. Those ice pillars almost made my head hurt. Dont remember how i beat that dungeon 13 years ago, when i was more stupid...

^ So true, little something for everyone I guess... I always find the pillars quite easy and fun, just end up visualizing it before starting... Just as soon as i have to understand something my mind just says... wtf is that meant to mean?!?!? O.o lol

The ice pillar puzzle in ice manor is probably the hardest puzzle of it's type I've ever done in a game that wasn't La-Mulana.
Also, I think I've spread the gospel of Alundra to at least one other person with this sig.

I used to say that Alundra was a Zelda for adults.
The only other mature action rpg that i played was Terranigma. Released at the end of SNES era, only in Japan and Europe, that game didn't had the attention it deserved. The story was pretty deep and sad. Those kind of games that even after you beat several times, you're still thinking about lot of aspects of the plot. Even graphic wise that game was superior than most others. While a lot of people think that Chrono Trigger had the best graphic of SNES, Terranigma was superior in that department also.

Lake Shrine Interior, no doubt.
I'm also partial to Nirude's Lair and the Ancient Shrine.
