better than critics' scores but far from perfect

User Rating: 8 | Alpha Protocol PS3
a score of 6 is unjust for alpha protocol. i'll start with the BAD. enemy ai is dreadful at best. voice acting for protagonist is monotonous and dreary - to the point that it annoys. visual bugs and glitches every now and than. unsatisfactory ending. limited customization for an rpg.
now the GOOD. good progression system. choices actually impact flow of game and are brought up later, making you feel as if they had really happened. plenty of choices to change game. shooting - which the critics called "a last gen shooter" - gets better (in an rpg game, how suprising!). so of course in the beginning if you don't give the game a chance you'll say the shooting is rubbish. but it isnt by any means. (if you enjoy 3rd person shooters). plenty of boss fights. stealth mechanic is very satisfying, especially when fully invested in. small details - like shooting a civilian with a tranquilizer vs. a bullet - register well with the ai. high replay value (my 3rd playthrough). minus the protagonist, voice acting is great. funny and believable characters. all in all, alpha protocol has its problems, like any game, but is still a very good game if given the proper chance.
