Now Infogrames are looking to put some more life back into the series, this time creating a game (under the development of Darkworks) set in the new millennium. Edward Carnby, the main character of Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, looks far different from the stuffed-shirt investigator we all grew used to in the original series (with his handlebar moustache and tweed jacket). He has been replaced with a younger, long-haired action hero-type personality (wearing a trench coat too) to appeal to a more modern audience. The game itself keeps the same look as its predecessors with pre-rendered backgrounds with polygonal characters imposed onto the foreground. The major difference now is the change of developers, who have opted for more of a straightforward horror game rather than the mysterious plots of yesteryear.

The way the story pans out, a friend of Edward's has gone missing whilst investigating strange occurrences on the ominously-named Shadow Island. Of course Edward simply must go and do a bit of investigating himself, along with Aline Cedrac, a female scientist who happens to be going to the island for her own professional and personal reasons. Both are most interested in a set of three ancient stone tablets that are believed to hold the key to some incredibly menacing phenomena. Not surprisingly something attacks the plane on the way to the island and the two heroes have to parachute to their location, becoming separated in the process. This leads to the player's first major choice of the game. Which character do you use?

This is upto you, both characters have there own storyline, and you can choose to play which ever one you want.
You can always play the game again with the other character the next time round.
