Wow....

Alone in the Dark. A game that has been in development for many years, turns out to be the biggest disappointment of the year.

The list of flaws in this game are big, and when it boils all down, it makes the PS2 version completely unnecessary.

Graphics
Low res character models, muddy textures, clipping, graphical glitches, the list goes on. This is the absolute worst looking PS2 game I have ever seen. The only good thing its got going is some decent visuals, but the PS2 has always been capable of so much more. The overall look screams a bad port from the 360 and PS3 versions.

Gameplay
The game plays horribly due to god awful controls, that has you hold L1, and swing a melee object with the right analog stick. To jump across obstacles, you hold L1 and push square. Yeah........ The camera is ala Resident Evil 4, but to fire switches to a horrid first person aiming system. Inventory management is a mess. Pressing select opens you jacket to reveal items, but gives no description, leading to confusion. That also brings up another point about the gameplay. You absolutely have no idea 90% of the time what to do next. For example, I had just gotten to central park, and I was injured my right arm was gashed open. I was told on the phone, that the public restroom has a first aid kit, I go there and nothing, I die, do it again, i die. It also doesn't help that objects usually have a button indicator over them, but is so transparent you can't see it. I passed by the same object I needed four times, before I noticed the button. BLAH!

Sound
Oh man does this game sound bad. The voice acting is terrible, full of a overload of cuss words. I mean your main character Edward Carnaby says nothing for a while, and the first word out of his mouth is f......... The game also has weak sound effects, actually the sound effects are putrid. But like the visuals, the music fares better. The orchestrated pieces are really well done, but will mostly be forgotten.

Overall Alone in Dark, is a terrible, terrible game. I have yet to play the 360 or PS3 versions, but I'm sure the game isn't any better. Also $39.99 for a PS2 game is a bit steep, considering this game has a budget title experience all over it.
