AAAaagggghhhHH !!! Alone in the Dark NO!

What can you say about this, I just got this game the day it came out, my excuse? I'd ordered it more or less accidentally from Amazon. Will I never learn?

Seriously though this is a bad game, I was going to award it 2 or 3 but when I dropped out it crashed - given the quality of games today it does deserve a 1. It does have good points but the bad points are really really bad. (reminds me of a certain game involving trucks).

First yes its an FPS but it feels very linear, almost like being on the Disney ride of the game not the game itself - which sucks.

Next we come to the real problem - the combat. Having killing the same pathetic zombie 3 times 6 times 9 times, till I screamed in pain.
Let me explain, they decided that the main baddie monsters can only be destroyed by fire - a good idea.
Ok here's how the combat goes, you fight the zombie with axe, lamppost and crowbar etc, -quite good combat- you kill it. Now all you have to do is destroy its body with fire before it regenerates 'Ha Ha Ha'. The way to do this is to get lighted furniture or drag it to the nearest fire.
The furniture burns very quickly, but finding it and getting it to light takes a long time - long enough for the zombie to wake up and knock you into the fire instead. This is usually fatal because the fire will trap you in the scenery just long enough to get a nice roasting.
Of course the real solution is to drag it and this is why the game earned its score - because you can flail the body about like no tomorrow but most of the time you just can't move, you struggle and scream at it, but the zombie comes back to life and you repeat the whole process, again and again, till you die, again and again. - This isn't just being stuck in one section it is a fatal flaw in the game mechanics .

The really 'great' thing about the fire is that many of your weapons are a bit flammable too so just touch it and they will burn to ash in seconds, and did I mention that a huge fire axe that should cut a zombie in half - still cannot keep it dead for more than thirty seconds. By the way this isn't on hard difficulty setting which I usually play on - there wasn't a difficulty setting.

Did I mention another final killer - there's to much of the XBox control system left - awkward clunky control system that to often gives you the wrong thing, nice try but no cigar.

Sadly this game follows the sad tradition - Alone in the Dark 1 was one of the best games the PC ever saw, but its probably had more terrible sequels than any other game ... there's so much potential in this ??? Flush it -
Tragic.
