This is very much a Marmite game - you'll either love it or hate it!

User Rating: 4.5 | Aliens vs. Predator PS3
"All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the Corps! A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I LOVE the Corps!"

There is very little that is original in the game, events seem to be rehashed events from the movies strung together with a new threading plotline. From realigning the dish to the queens egg chamber some moments could have done with a bit of a twist adding to them.

As a fan of the movies though there is however a lot to like with the game, and you do get plenty of value for money with the different species and their attributes.

Personally, like playing with a lightsaber, I'll never get sick of the sounds of the motion tracker and pulse rifle. Stalking your prey as the predator with all the associated weapons, vision modes etc is also a lot of fun.

However - and this is the games biggest problem - the original AVP PC game of ten years ago was so groundbreaking that no sequel could ever hope to match it. This new version has very polished cut scenes, and lance henrikson reprises his (many) roles from the films, but like the franchise itself, it has a hard time living up to glories past.

As a fan of the movies (Aliens in particular) it is a lot of fun, and the aliens themselves still show how scary and original a creation they were. Although a bit on the harsh side I can see why gamespot gave it a low score, i think the reviewer just doesn't like the marmite!

"Just tell me one thing, Burke. You're going out there to destroy them, right? Not to study. Not to bring back. But to wipe them out?"

UPDATE: 25th Jan 2011 - I'm now sick of the tast of marmite!
