A Terrifyingly Effective Game Within an Effectively Terrifying Franchise

User Rating: 8 | Alien: Isolation X360

Alien... My favourite horror film of all time, and this game did not disappoint. Alien Isolation can be seen as Canon due to its position in the timeline and the themes the story deals with. I love the sound design, music and visuals, which continuously leave a lingering sense of mystery and dread while playing. This is true survival horror, the scariest style of horror, and I never thought I could spend so much time in a locker... until now.

The visual design elements of this game are stunning, just looking out of the windows makes you feel as though you really are in space. The storyline is what I would expect from an Alien game with not too many shockers, however the Jumpscare moments with the Alien are perfectly well timed and I found myself less scared of the Alien itself than I was when coming into contact with the androids.

The sense of being isolated on an eerily unfamiliar ship, seemingly void of life, in space with no prospect of ant aid from outside is a frightening prospect and, although a familiar theme, feels different and new. Some of the voice acting was a bit iffy, but that can be forgiven. Overall this is an exemplary game going back to its survival roots, steering less away from action-heavy storylines.
