Gameplay The story will play out in an episodic format, with a television show-style presentation. Remedy has confirmed that Alan Wake is only the first season of a bigger story, opening the door for future sequels.[8] Light plays a significant role in gameplay and strategy. The enemies, called dark forces in-game, are sensitive to light, encouraging the player to take advantage of environment light sources and placing significant emphasis on the flashlight as a primary weapon. Players also have the ability to set traps which illuminate when triggered, either damaging or temporarily immobilizing an enemy. Remedy also promised a free-roam, sandbox-style city, similar to those seen in the Grand Theft Auto series. However in an interview with Finnish magazine Pelaaja and American magazine Edge, this was later confirmed to have been removed, with Remedy opting to focus on a compelling storyline over sandbox-style gameplay.[9][10] Alan Wake features a day/night time cycle, which is controlled by Remedy to create suspense and drama at any given time. During the day, players may interact with other NPCs to find out more about the town of Bright Falls.

Plot Alan Wake, a bestselling writer, hasn't managed to write anything in over two years. Now his wife, Alice, brings him to the idyllic small town of Bright Falls to recover his creative flow. But when she vanishes without a trace, Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmare. Word by word, his latest work, a thriller he can't even remember writing, is coming true before his eyes. He somehow knows it's his story without any memory of writing it.

Alan Wake is an upcoming video game being developed by Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish company behind the Max Payne games. Alan Wake is a "psychological action thriller" inspired by Twin Peaks, Lost and also the works of Stephen King. It is due for release on Xbox 360 in May 2010.[4] Plans for a Windows release have been shelved indefinitely.[5] The titular character, Alan Wake, is modeled after Ilkka Villi, a Finnish professional actor and writer.[6][7]

What worthless teasers this game has. Watched all of them and still dont know or care what this game is about. As far as I can tell hes shooting nothing in every scene haha. Please if you want to tease us at least show us some gameplay action and a few enemies not just the landscape and driving a jeep around thats boring and pointless. And as for the night and day effect its been done.

This looks pretty decent. I'd buy it and play it in a dark room at night :P

looks like an open world survival horror, not sure if thats ever been done. hopefully more detail will be at e3 09

all these trailers for star ocean are going to make me buy the damn game to see if they shut up...

looks interesting enough, It looks like they are using day and nightime effects in the game, so that might be pretty cool. :]

@Shifty-Sniper I'm pretty sure you're right. I think he's a writer who starts having problems sleeping due to nightmares so goes to see some psychologist about it and his nightmares start coming alive. @donut5 I think what thats trying to say is its worse to live through you nightmares-" is being awake" than to not sleep at all. Looks great, I just hope it won't suffer from being in production so long. I've been following this for like 3 years.

I heard that the story line is he has nightmares than the nightmares come true. Dunno if the rumour is true though.

Did they decide to scrap this game or is it still in production? I heard about this game back in 2005 and I haven't heard anything about it recently.
