Hey, look, Alan's in the woods at night. Again! And again!
It isn't bad by all means, but I couldn't even get through half the game until I was utterly bored.
Graphics: 9/10
On technical level Alan Wake is very good - the lightning effects and environments look great. So do the character models. Some textures look blurry and even though it looks good even on the lowest graphical settings, expect some framerate dips even on powerful machines.
Sound: 7/10
Some of the voice work is quite good, but that mainly applies to the lead characters like Alan and Alice. Others, such as Berry aren't as good. The music is good. Sometimes. The ambient sounds that substitutes music most of the time may seem too bland overall. Some of the sound effects are good too and they set the atmosphere quite a lot.
Gameplay: 6/10
It goes like this: cutscene, Alan is in forest on a linear path, shoots some of the ghosts/monsters, cutscene, Alan is in forest again. Of course, all of this is happening at night. The story always makes Alan to be in the woods only at night. The fact that the Bright Falls isn't an open sand box style environment hurts the game a lot too. It is far too linear even in the action sequences. It may be fun to shoot the enemies while trying to stay alive most of the time, but it is extremely repetitive and the enemies are ever-respawning in some territories, which just enrages me. Sometimes the enemies just seem over-powered. That would be all right if Alan a had melee attack, but there isn't such an ability. Also, the controls feel clunky, which is an issue when running from the enemies. And, god, Alan is so slow!
Presentation: 7/10
The story isn't bad, but the storytelling itself feels ridiculous. Alan is just overly sensitive and it makes the narrative occasionally weird. It just tries to be a Stephen King novel a bit too hard.
Replay value: 6/10
There are some collectibles with not much of a value. There are coffee thermoses (no value at all) and manuscript pages of Alans' novel. They are dramatically written and they come off a little poor.
Overall, if you're OK with endless running in the woods, you may find it fun, I didn't.
