Sometime back in June, Gamespot did a feature on free games that we should try out, and the only one that interested me was this mmorpg Air Rivals. Now this has been my first mmo ever, so I wasn't quite sure how it would turn out. I am glad to tell you that this is an extremely fun game as it as combined jet fighting with rpg qualities. Especially for a free game, this has kept me engaged for hours. The community is great and always willing to help you out even if you are a noob (like me). If you get close enough to some members you will unconsciously create your own grinding partners. Fighting people whether they be from another nation or not is always fun, even if you get owned...fairly. I would definetly suggest this to anyone who has free time on their hands as this game is completely free. The game even takes the liberty of giving you training wheels up until about level 10, this is a very good thing because by the time you reach that level (which happens pretty fast), you will know all about the basics of how to play the game, instead of just putting you head forth into the game to be preyed on by the elite players. Some say that the AI's voice at the beginning of the game is really annoying, but we all have to deal with it, and once you get to level 10 you will be hearing a minimal amount of that voice. Also there is no experience penalty for dying. The penalty of dying depends on the cause of death. If you are killed by one of wild ai then you lose spi (money), and the amount of spi lost is dependent on how much your gear (the jet), is worth, so if you have a crappy gear then you will lose almost no money, but if you have good one then you will lose a few thousand, but if you have a good gear in the first place then losing that money is essentially the same as dying at an early level seeing as you would have so much money by that point. Other situations of dying include: battling in the arena, dueling, or getting killed by the enemy nation, for which none of those causes will you lose spi. When you die or are killed, you always have the choice of reappearing on the same map or teleporting back to the city at no extra cost. There is also a supply center on each map, which will allow you to refuel, reload your weapons, and replenish your health and shields. Note that at this supply center, if you just land, your health will automatically heal.
