Transformers with strategy

User Rating: 8 | AirMech Arena PS4

This game is one of those few that come along and makes you think wow this isn't half bad. Airmech charm lies in its simplicity. Its not overly complicated and the tutorial mode teaches you how to play properly. Each of the aircraft are modelled on real life aircraft. There is the striker which is based on the F15 however thanks to the possibility of uplay you can get a skin for it to look like the F14....the helix which is based on the commanche gunship, the warthog which as you guessed is the A10. There is a stealth bomber, osprey which incidently is the medic, the paladin which is the chinook. There is even a nod to a classic ww2 fighter the P38 lightning.

The game plays very similar to RPG style games. You level up and you unlock more airmechs, earn in game currency called kudos. Using this to buy parts, other skins, pilots etc. Youj also get diamonds which you can earn by logging in so many times in a row in a week. That can also be used to get parts, skins, pets etc.

There is also a great amount of strategy in how the game is played. For example each airmech has its own advantages and weapon systems....no two mechs are the same. They all transform into robots and in robot mode not all mechs use their machine guns/missiles. The bomber for example does its role as a bomber well. Its able to bomb a group of enemy tanks in very little time and fuss....however when you transform into robot he uses his wings as swords and gets up close to attack. The A10 only has its minigun.....no rockets etc. It can however in both modes shoot at both airborne and land targets. The most versatile airmech is the helix gunship. Not only does it fire its guns and missiles in gunship mode but when in robot mode can swarm a group of tanks with its missiles.

You also have a main base that is also where you get re-spawned. As you progress on the map you have to find and occupy other bases to increase your range and rebuild points for your tanks, jeeps, soldier's making it easier to further progress eventually taking out the enemy base.

The only small issue with the game is the lack of variety in the maps. As its stands there is only 6 or so maps and only 3 types of terrain. Jungle, desert and what looks like remnants of city.

If you do decide to give it a go you won't be disappointed with its fun, simple game mechanics.
