Sometimes it's just better to keep things simple. That seems to be the path the developer's took with Age of Booty.

In Age of Booty, you take on the role of an up-and-coming pirate. You play each game with your pirate ship and possibly some AI-controlled assistants. You collect resources based upon the cities you control, dumped cargo that you find, and villages you ransack. With these resources, you can upgrade the offensive/defensive strength of your cities between 3 city strength levels. Similarly, you and your AI allies can upgrade your pirate ships in one of three areas: speed, armor, and cannons. Each game typically requires you to control a specific number of cities at one time. Sometimes there's a time limit and sometimes you can take as much time as you want. As the games increase in difficulty, you find yourself fighting increasingly stronger opponents and then multiple opponents simultaneously.

Graphically, the game is pleasant to look at with little details found everywhere. The sound queues can be quite helpful when you're engrossed in the middle of a game as well.

All of these pieces come together to form a fun, quick strategy game that doesn't require a lot of time or brainpower to play. This makes for a relaxing distraction from more intense and complex games. If you're looking for a deep RTS where you build up your base, research your techs, and build ever-stronger units to crush the enemy, then this game is not for you. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a quick game that you can sit down and play solo or with friends that has some basic RTS components to it, then you should give Age of Booty a look.
