Statistically, one in twenty of us live next door to a pedophile. Not me though. I live next door to a stunning pair of seven year olds. - Nov 15, 2012 8:44 pm GMTI think they will. They wouldn't have stopped the AW dual strike series and just to make the DoR a standalone. Intelligent Systems even had Tabitha go missing instead getting killed. If they wanted DoR to be on its own they would have killed off Tabitha along with all the other antagonists. Though it may take a while, I think they'll make a sequel.
Hope never dies. - Nov 16, 2012 2:13 am GMTThere's also Waylon. It would be interesting to see him return. Though I would honestly prefer a completely new primary antagonist. Neither Waylon or Tabitha really fit the bill. Waylon's a cowardly idiot, and Tabitha is an insane child. I want to see them both return in some capacity, but I'd like a new mastermind. Maybe some alien force that was behind the meteors.

All I`d want from a sequel are a couple of new COs, more single player content and most importantly a wifi multiplayer map selection without obviously unbalanced maps. I`d even buy the game if it just had a map editor and a balanced multiplayer.
Considering the quality and popularity (at least in the USA) of AW games alonside their seemingly low development cost, I think it would be a big mistake for IS to end the series now. - Nov 18, 2012 6:17 pm GMTGeneralFatman posted...

WHAT Waylon is alive?
I'm gonna do the campaign again. - Nov 18, 2012 7:44 pm GMTThe real problem is Advance Wars has no appeal to the Japanese market. That'll likely limit how often we see new AW games.

- Nov 21, 2012 5:26 pm GMTThat's not what Xenesis meant. It used to be popular in Japan indeed back in the days of SFW and the GameBoy Wars games. However, the Advance releases didn't do quite well at all due to various reasons. AW1 hadn't been released until after AW2 since it was put on hold after its unfortunate North-American release on 9/11. It eventually only appeared in an GameBoy Wars Advance 1+2 bundle, over three years after the NA release of AW1 and one an a half years after AW2. AWDS had kind of disappointing sales after that and DoR's Japanese release was completely cancelled (even though a complete Japanese translation already exists within the code!). We're not exactly sure why DoR's release got delayed to the point of cancellation as Intelligent Systems never provided a proper explanation as far as we know.
Basically, as far as the Advance Wars games were concerned, Japan got royally screwed over with its releases, making its relatively low popularity there a hardly surprising fact, and most likely the reason why IS doesn't seem to be putting much effort into releasing a new Wars title. Especially when every new installment of Fire Emblem or Paper Mario is basically a sales guarantee while the profit margin for Wars games is far, far smaller.

What's the point of living if we're all just born to die? - Dec 7, 2012 4:37 pm GMTI don't get why this series would be so unpopular in Japan while Fire Emblem sells. They're both so similar.

The only explanation as to why FE does better in Japan has to do with more characters you get to know and spend time with and are fleshed out with the permadeath system in the games. While AW has units that get cranked out from factories, airports, and naval docks, with the CO's piloting certain units. Most likely due to the 50+ units with backgrounds and stories they get as opposed to the handful of CO's that come to play in AW.

I'll kill a man in a fair fight. Or if I think he's gonna start a fair fight. Or if he bothers me. Or if I'm gettin' paid. Mostly when I'm gettin' paid. - Dec 10, 2012 12:27 am GMTGeneralFatman posted...

DemonKingu pretty much said why. It didn't have the benefit of regular releases like FE did.

Same here. I don't think they'll ever make another one. I strongly believe Advance Wars is done, though I'd love to be proven wrong.
Everything DemonKingu said is true, but I don't see why they couldn't just continue the series in NA and simply not release it in Japan. - Dec 25, 2012 7:19 am GMTA sequel needs to be a continuation of the original storyline, not this.

I don't care what storyline they use, though I would prefer that the story be more serious than the first three and actually have main characters die like in this one. War isn't happy sunshine time. People die.
Ultimately though, all that matters is the gameplay and I hope it continues to use DoR's gameplay over that of the first three. - Dec 26, 2012 10:58 am GMTBJW1990 posted...

I think DoR took the series in the right direction in pretty much every way. I like the new unit balances. Neotanks were already a bit much, but the mega units were getting ridiculous in Dual Strike. Nonsense like the Megatank just made fights a race to spam as many overpowered units as possible. Also, treating war like it was some kind of friendly rivalry got bizarre at times, especially when allies fought each other just for sport. DoR actually had a story with believable characters, even if most of them were pretty one dimensional. At least they reacted to the events in the story like you could expect a human to react. Even little things like integrating the war room into the campaign helped out in my opinion.

Agreed. DoR was easily the best one. I'd rather not see the series die, but at least it went out at it's best. - Dec 26, 2012 10:39 pm GMTAnything that actually tried was an improvement over Dual Strike. Even something with balance as pathetic as that of Kid Icarus Uprising's, because at least that game had a promising happy medium for super armor. What its fatal problem is is making stuff with minimal attack power too high.
Oh wait. Days of Ruin does that bit of idiocy too. DIAF, 55% mirror matchup Light Tanks. That among other things makes it pointless to bother with defensive power for a sudden momentum advantage. Don't believe me? Then tell me it's a coincidence that Anti-Tanks, which are built to have defensive power, suck, and that the Battleship, which has so much range that you need defensive power to hope to answer it well, can't be answered properly.
Battalion Wars, in contrast, makes it useful to use your Light Tanks without them being broken or mindless. They can make use of terrain cover to get close to Artillery unharmed--and that's saying something because Battalion Wars Artillery does not have watered down range whatsoever--and being able to live against enemy Light Tanks AND counter units when you're dealing working damage makes it easier to keep your AI guys safe.
