The afterburners fizzle out in this video review for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon.
another fail review from failspot, nothing new to see here. Yet still gives cod 9s left and right.
WOW Kevin is so good, he figured out this game isn't the most profound thing you will expirience in your entire life and goes on about it for the whole review well dont fucking say.
This is not an ace combat game. This is an attempt to cash in on the shooter market by getting them to buy this game instead of the core audience of flight sim and arcade flyers. As soon as the plane controls itself while you shoot it ceases to even be a flight sim game.
Kevin should play this........

This game is harder than any ace combat game, it took me 33 tries to bring down a Ziz 2 bomber with a Mig 21 Bis!
huh, I hope to enjoy it, its like playing Call of Duty, only its in the sky and I love aircraft :| My favorite Ace combat was the Belkan War, as it was the hardest and most punishing Ace Combat game I ever known, Joint Strike is good, just that the control kinda clunky. How do I missed this, oh well, I hope to see how Namco do its PC version next year.
This is the type or review that Metal Gear Solid 4 or Mass Effect 2 should have gotten, those games are all flash and no substance, the game is as fun as hell, the only real bad thing that got under my skin was the Spooky mission. Also, most of the time, the things that make the game 'too easy' can be ignored unlike the 2008 Prince of Persia reboot (which Kevin VanOrd also reviewed) where the games easiness was forced on the player.
@RageQuitter69 you probably haven't even played them if you say that, stop being butthurt.
I disagree about the helicopter missions being the better non-fighter missions. I think that the first one was alright but the second one I hated more than any other part of the game! Also, can you pilot bombers in multiplayer or did he mean attackers? I have yet to see a bomber in multiplayer, but that might justify there only being one bomber mission in which you can make no use of the B-2's stealth. In my opinon, it's a fun game, but it gets old and there were several improvements that could have been made.
That was pretty brutal review. For someone who is new to the arcade simulator. I found the game pretty enjoyable. The game is tough even on the easiest difficulty. So I am not sure where the reviewer is getting that it is an easy game. The only thing I wish this game had was system link support seems like only a few people from Japan play this game.
I have played all ace combats from when they first arrived on ps1 to this current release and as a long time fan of the series, I have to say how disappointed I am with assault horizon. Contrary to the previous comment I think this review hits the nail on the head. The solid core gameplay of all the previous games has been compromised by poor new gameplay features that the game forces you to use. Worse still, the story also interferes by forcing you to complete mission tasks in specific ways or else its mission failed. My hope is that Namco will realise their error and return to the classic formula for the next game or I will have to say goodbye to one of my favorite game series for good. :(
Van Ord dropped the ball on this one. Did he even play the whole thing? What about the copter missions? Hang in the air too long and you'll go down in flames, just like this review. Metacritic seems to agree with me. Only things that take away from this game is when you take out an enemy it zooms in on the kill which can be disorienting at times. Some of the missions are really long so it's not a pick up and play for a little while, you have to devote time to it. Glad I did research and paid little attention to this review. If you like action this game is for you.
0:52, you might as well have came out and admitted gamespot is biased, you never said that about Metal Gear Solid 4, that game that IS more movie than game!
I can agree with this review. I can only claim to have played AC5 and AC0, but it isn't really a stretch to say "Don't fix what's not broken" in this case. I appreciate the attempt to make the franchise visually more appealing, as I did get bored as hell on some of the bigger missions, but they didn't have to change the gameplay for that. @jeffbordonaro If they wanted to make it epic, IMO, they should've focused on the story. AC5 gave me goosebumps throughout the game solely on that. I didn't have to tell myself to get into it, the game pulled me in. I was definitely flying around screaming get 'em, but I was doing it for a reason, not because I wanted to see a big boom. If any of you played AC5, then you know we got 'em for Chopper.
Funny that a game not focused on jet gameplay such as Battlefield 3 has implemented jets much more efficiently. Ace Combat 6 was much better. Visually though this does look nice.
Ace Combat introduced an innovative combat system, "DOGFIGHT MODE" you know, japanese always innovative. *Damn its True let see if Tom Clancy's Hawx can do better without adopting AC's Dogfight Mode LOL
as shocked as i am to see a mediocre rating on this, i can kinda relate to how he sums it up at the end. i have played the demo, so see what he means
i only played the demo, but this review says everything i expected and imagined. I want to add that maybe people that never played an ace combat game before this one might like it, but be aware, ace combat is one of the best videogame series of all time.
@imperatusignis you are one difficult man to please if you find gears repetetive. In gears 3 you can approach your encounters in a number of ways, you can attack from behind cover till the enemy dies, you can have a friend flank them while you lay down supressive fire, you can charge head long, the game play throws up all sorts of ways to allow you to do things in a variety of ways ... where as assault horizon just gives you the one option everytime, lock on, go into dogfight, fire missiles, boom, move on. And I disagree about your point on turning into movies. If people wanted to watch movies they would buy movies, thats not why we buy games.
I notice that a lot of people are suggesting the review is some how wrong/bias/crap (as per usual,,,honestly sometimes I wonder why you people bother reading/watching reviews). I havent played the full game but this reflects what I felt the moment I started the demo, dumbed down, repetetive to the extreme and just not up to th standards of previous games in the series I was hoping it would be one of those games that blossoms as it goes on but this review merely confirms my fears
i think KEVIN is Tom Clancy's Hawx' Slut. Next Gen Consoles is about visual and entertaintment, you want skills? grab your gear and get outside. LOL Yet Japanese games and Anime rule earth.. which gamer doesnt kno metalgear? resident evil? tekken? street fighter? Final fantasy? Pro Evolution Soccer? even fanboy from far away dressed and gathered like naruto, cloud, and blablabla... and they made me laughing my ass off here the failed one dressed like 'Akuma" http://blog.wtfconcept.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/akuma_pwn-fail.jpg just wait and see, tom clancy's hawx adopt what so called DFM (Dogfight Mode) in AC AH. and @payne_master = you can say whatever you want.. incompetent, yes, but i prefer smart. you want save some money (to buy food?) try before buy the original one. since not all of the games release the demos.
Repetitive, you can say the same of most curent games, I have just finished Gears 3 campaign and its completelly forgetable because its repetitive. I think at least a cinematic camera adds more inmersion. Trying to be more a movie and less like a game is not something bad. About character development, most of them felt out of place in AC6 but at least it delivers a message about war which seems to be missing here. Will buy this maybe on december or next year
At first i didn't like kevin's tone reviewing this game, but now i completely agree with this derogatory tone used towards this crap game. the US economy isn't doing that great, save your money to buy food or something thats really worth 60bucks.
Take the review for what it is guys. Its not a verse from the holy bible, but the verdict from a reviewer. If Kevin wants to shun mindless dumbed down games then he's doing most of us a favour. In the end i appreciate the honesty, and no one here wants to waste money on a game that was 'supposed' to be good according to reviews. If certain people still loved this game then thats only normal. We all loved The Dark Knight, but we all didnt love Battle: Los Angeles.
I have noticed, ppl who don't like this game, usually don't like anything;also, they're boring as hell. I agreed with all Kevin's reviews without exception, all but this one.Who's that new slim guy who pretends to be him by the way?Not even close to the original. Ppl who don't play this are not true gamers, they're not true patriots either. This is the best Namco can do ,and they can make crappy games when they want believe me.Namco has an Arcady background,it's part of their history and internal culture, this is good when it's well done,And it is well done.
Learn to review for real, just because other companies are not paying gamespot to automatically give a 9 or more doesn't mean u have to give games bad score. Ace Combat is an 8.5!
I love how gamespot is getting more and more elitist. It is about time game industry starts making real intelligent games, not just cookie cuter games.
i just beat da game nd i loved it, 8.5 at least.. not 5.5 lol wtf cmon gamespot :P
it is not ridiculous comparing it to call of duty because it obviously is trying to be call of duty in the air. Those executives sat down in a room, and discussed about what's hot and what people are into nowadays so they can scavenge a piece of the profit from Activision.
I played the demo. It was mind numbingly dumb and boring. Looks like a playstation 2 game. Unless they have a clear idea of what they want to do with a game, some franchises should just remind dormant.
