A much needed point n' click game to show that it's not a dying art.

User Rating: 7.5 | A Vampyre Story PC
After seeing so games out in the Age of the Next Gen consoles, it was high time that I needed a game that was solely for the PC and it doesn't require too much time.
A Vampyre Story, to put it this way; was a breath of fresh air as Gears of War and Fallout was starting to stale the atmosphere of my room. Now that I think about it, I can't remember how I heard about this game... Oh yeah, through Gamespot. I was looking through some vampire-based games that I was so keen to play, ever since I finished Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.

If you played games like Curse of Monkey Island, the gameplay is a simple affair. It's like all point n' clicks using a mouse. Easy.
The some of the puzzles in the game are actually quite easy to figure out. There were moments that I had to look at an FAQ for the most simplest of puzzles. Don't laugh, my brain is too used to complications to figure something very simple. Yes I am an idiot.

The graphics are actually very good for a PC game. Like most critics would say, it does have a nice touch of Tim Burton-esque to it. The background design in the games are actually gorgeous to look at. The character design is wonderful too. The music scores are good too, with a different soundtrack to each environment you go to. The voice acting however leaves a lot to be desired for. While it's not good, it's certainly isn't bad. Some of the characters have good voice acting and others could have been better.

The story is good, and there were elements of comedy as Bill Tiller wanted for his game. The problem is that much of the scripting can either be hit or miss. More disturbingly is that it's for 7 years plus. Why do say that? There were some dialogues that contain swear words, sexual innuendoes and drugs/alcohol references. Is it really for children? (It's rated 7+ here in the UK.)
It would have been even better if there were extras. It had a good reference to old Lucas Arts games that were the point n' clicks and also certain Star Wars phrases.

Overall, the comedy and voice acting needs improvement. I just wished that they hadn't ended it with a sort of Cliffhanger. I do however look forward to its sequels.
