An Enjoyable Family Game

User Rating: 10 | A Kingdom for Keflings X360
This game, created by NinjaBee, has been rated an 8.0 by the GameSpot community. And all of my friends love the game. You start out as a giant, being able to choose any of five characters: Maia, Naira, Grant, Trevor, or You. You is your customized Xbox Live avatar. Once you get started, you'll be able to build different things with the different resources you'll come across in the game. And even further on, these resources can be used to create something new and for higher level building (e.g. Taking a stone to the Brick Mason will create a brick).

The player will need to put together different components to create one large masterpiece. Put these masterpieces together to create your city. There are several major goals you'll be working toward here. Firstly, comes the Mayor's Office. Here, you can recieve quests to do. For your reward, you may recieve love - which activates a house, populating your city with more Keflings - or a special item which may help either you or your Kelfings get the job done more quickly. Then comes the Keep, which runs the same as the Mayor's Office. Then, finally, comes to Castle. This will be the point at which you've completed the game. However, you can still build and recieve blueprints to can extent.

The components you must build are made out of the resources you collect around the Kefling area. There are rocks, crystals, sheep, and trees. You can cut or mine each of these to get their products. From trees, you recieve wood. From sheeps, you recieve wool. One objective of the game, if you wish to create a grand city, is to clear the area of the resources. That way, you'll have more space for the buildings you'll need to create. The resources found in the area around numbered, so you can clear them out in a matter of time. However, so that you don't run out of materails, NinjaBee has put unlimited resources on the outer brinks which act as boundaries for the area.

Eventually, you'll be working on new places for the Mayor. These are the milestones for the game, or the things you must build in order to complete your kingdom for the Keflings. As a matter of fact, I haven't covered who the Keflings are yet. Let me tell you a bit about them.

The Keflings you are, obviously, building the kingdom for. They are small, little human-like creatures based from people in the medievil ages. They will assist you wherever you need help when creating the kingdom. They will gather resources and transport materials for you. All you need to do is give them the command. They are also needed to activate certain buildings. But also, they're required to have the "smarts" to run certain places. So you'll have to educate them, sending them to one of three schools. The Basic School creates a Smart Kefling. The Graduate School creates a Graduate Kefling. And the Guild Hall creates a Guild Kefling.

In addition to Keflings, there are other things required for certain buildings to be activated. Just like Love, specific items are needed for a place to run (e.g. The Trade Agreement activates the Marketplace). The school is probably the most common example of this. You'll need to find books scattered around various parts of the kingdom area. Or sometimes, if you're lucky, they appear in the Town Square. It is also possible to have some of the books or items spawn in the Town Square and others to be scattered.

And last but not least, the online mode! Multiplayer is simply Single Player, but with friends. You can join other games and help them with their tasks. A very popular online job that I know of is to clear out the map of resources. Usually, the Keflings are clearing and the players are carrying the materials off the Basic Workshop. But you can do whatever you want with your pals. Even kick around a few naughty Keflings or make funny faces with each other using the D-Pad.

So, if you like laid-back, no win-or-lose factors, and something you can just enjoy with you friend, A Kingdom for Keflings is for you. This is Chromer V. Blane, signing out.
