What could be more touching than a boy and his blob? A girl and her geranium?...

A cute concept, the main problem with ‘A Boy and His Blob’ is the frustrating preciseness required. This game reveled in the game theory of ‘trial and error’. You could literally walk onto a new screen and die. Thankfully, there were ways around this, such as feeding the Blob a coconut jellybean and rolling him across several screens for a sneak preview. But how much can you fault a game that let’s you whistle for your pet blob, watch him frown when he misses a bean, and even lets you double back cartoon-style when you skid over a ledge? * Gameplay: Original gameplay is hampered by an unforgiving game world. No save feature will make you eat the cartridge if you die close enough to the end. * Graphics: Its fun to watch the blob turn into different things, all with some relevance to the bean (cola beans turn the blob into a bubble). Backgrounds needed major work. * Sound: Catchy music. Even had unique tunes for certain bean effects. * Value: Hard to play through again once you’ve finished. Getting all the treasures just isn’t worth the hassle. * Tilt: None, although I wouldn’t mind seeing some kind of updated, 3D adventure with the two.
