Geared Towards "24" Fans, But Still Worth A Rent

User Rating: 7.5 | 24: The Game PS2
I just rented the game about 4 days ago and was really excited. First, the voiceovers are outstanding! They have the entire season 3's main character's voices integrated in both the cutscenes and actual gameplay. The reason i say this game is geared towards "24" fans is the fact that it is a prequel to season 3 of the show; meaning someone who hasnt seen the show prior to the game, wont understand a damn thing about the characters and their past. So i warn non-24ers that some of the storyline may not make sense, (but i do highly recommend watching the series). Thats fine though. One can still play the game and understand the current desperate situation. Next, graphics are a little lackluster, but NOT BAD! I think we (gamers) are getting much too used to seeing the next generation of games, and are starting to gauge the PS2 on the new technology. REMEMBER, the PS2 is ancient! What it produced for this game ws adequate and functional, and probably borderline maximum framrate it could handle. I think the cutscene graphics are Unbelievable as well. Its not difficult to recognize any of the faces, and the expressions are well done too. Explosions are good. The controls arent terrbie, but dont have a great feel. The car physics/missions are indeed HOrRIBLE! Once your 'getaway' reaches it 'top speed' the handling it terrible..as in the car doesnt turn! and the only way to get it to turn is to either handbrake it, or slow down....both are bad choices. First of all, it feels as if you are a civic in a formula one race=you can have the same F***ing car as the AI, and they accel and handle like twice as fast as you! not to mention top speed....on the highway, full speed in your car is slighlty faster than traffic! i made serveral perfect ditching attempts and doughnuts t get away from the AI persuers, and they are magically on my a$$ going top speed whilst i am passing probably 15 mph! HOW FRUSTRATING! The only way to lose them is to virtually kill them by literally cutting them off in to oncoming traffic and those sorts of heavy objects which can get tedious as there is a time limit to beat.
That is my main complaint is the driving missions....it was very frustrating that i replayed the same mission like 7 times flawlessly for over 30 minutes just to get screwed at the end because i failed to lose the impossibly scandalous and stupid AI. Nest the AI are mentally challenged. The stand in one spot and just take the bullets like a shower. Which i dont care about too much because it keeps the game fresh and quick as you can quickly complete most missions by literally sprinting and gunning. Or you can even scratch the shooting part, unless necessary, and just run past the enemies as they have a reaction time of about 3 hours! (you seriously can!)

Overall, i enjoyed the hell out of this game for i am a '24' realist baby! I recommend it as a rental as it doesnt take long to beat, and theres not much replay value at all. TO BLOCKBUSTER!
