What is the greatest game demo you ever played? #demowars

First game to come to mind is the MGS 2 demo. Pretty sure I bought Zone of Enders 2 just so I can play this demo lol. Dem graphics were incredible (and they’re still good now). But most importantly, MGS is my favorite of all time, so getting a taste of the sequel was huge! What about you, SW? What is the greatest game demo you have ever played?

Had a lot of fun with the demo of Dark Messiah back in the day, played the first stage over and over.

Did the same with Soldier of Fortune even further back in the day.

In later days, that Puyo Puyo Tetris demo on Switch was awesome. Didn't even have to buy the game as the best mode was in the demo, 4-player multi-player and all.

Moto GP on the OG Xbox when XBL first went live. My goodness was that phenom for the time. :D

Absolutely nothing will beat the Sons of Liberty demo.

GOAT demo.

Tomb Raider 1 MS-DOS demo. In all its pixelated shimmering glory.

First VR experience. Quite the introduction.

I still remember buying a demo disk that had Jedi Knight on there. I later ended up playing Jedi Knight 2&3.

Age of Empires had a demo that everyone was playing and got people into the series.

And Battlefield 1942 had a really fun demo where you could team up with 63 other players and become friends over chat.

I sound like some 80 year old guy.

Crysis. You could even mess around with the engine.

I have a lot of good memories playing the demo discs from the old PlayStation Underground magazines. I wish they still published them, lots of fun to read as well. As far as my favorite game I played on the demo I’d have to say Freedom Fighters on PS2, I replayed that one so many times until I was able to borrow the full game from a friend in school.

MGS2 demo is first thing that came to mind. Many purchased the original Zone of the Enders just to play MGS2 demo.

If only MGS3 had a demo packaged with Zone of the Enders 2, that game would've got the attention it deserved.

Octopath Traveler 2 was a really good demo.

SSX on the PS2. Showed me a game that was nothing but fun.

I tend to avoid demos. I guess my buying habit for games tend to be set, usually I know what I'm buying and I don't need a demo to convince me.

It can also stress me out to play just a sliver of a game then have to wait for the rest of the game to come out, especially if that demo ends on a cliffhanger and it hooked me.

Metal Gear Rising demo from Zone of the Elders HD collection PS3 was really fun and the latest demo is Price of Persia Lost Crown demo is also really good.

Yeah this gets my vote as well. I played it like 20 times before the game released. Then I played through the opening level to be bamboozled by Raiden. Amazing freaking game and the demo 100% sold me on the game.

MGS2 is the one that stands out for me.

I played the crap out of the Return to Castle Wolfenstein mp demo.

It wasn't the greatest I ever played, but for some reason the game that always comes to mind when I think about demos is a PS demo disc back in the day that featured Nightmare Creatures... of all games.

to this day the Raiden switch was quite the shocker.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma - gave access to most of the game's fully upgraded weapons , with every difficulty available. NG2 was similar.

Splinter Cell demo was pretty cool for its time and made the full game an instant buy for me, it was stunning how much you could do in that little portion of the game.

PT. Hands down. After it was pulled from PSN I sold my PS4 with it on the hard drive for $850 bucks on ebay. The greatest, most profitable, demo that ever existed.

Oh yeah, definitely MGS2... Then came the bait and switch. Still an excellent game.

I heard the Dragon Quest XI S demo is around 6 hours or so. Tbh that is like the worst part of DQXI the first act is so boring but many jrpg fans loved it.

The piano mini game in the FF7 Rebirth demo is brilliant!

There was a Battlefield demo (I think it was BF 3 or 4?) that gave you basically the entire game but only one map. It was a lot of fun and honestly I think I played that demo for months before the game was on sale and I finally bought it.

Best part? All my progression carried over since it was tied to my account.
