New Fallout 4 Patch Released To Address Community Feedback

The latest update lets console players fine-tune their graphics settings to their liking.

When Bethesda finally released its "next-gen" upgrade for 2015 game Fallout 4, fans weren't happy after the update was found to be breaking mods, causing glitches, and in some cases providing worse-quality graphics than the pre-update experience. Now, a new update has been released to fix the previous one, patching up some bugs and giving players more options for their next-gen Fallout 4 experience.

The new update, first and foremost, gives more flexibility for players on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 when it comes to selecting graphics options. "We highly recommend you run with the default settings but now you can change your options to better fit your playstyle and display," the patch notes read.

The settings will now allow players to choose a frame-rate target no matter what mode they're in, selecting between 30fps, 60fps, or 40fps if their display supports 120hz. The game will try to maintain that frame-rate target whether players choose Visuals or Performance mode for graphics, though Bethesda strongly recommends selecting Performance mode for a target of 60fps. "Both modes may adjust internal resolution dynamically when scenes or action get heavier," the patch notes warn.

A number of bug fixes are shipping with the patch, including a fix for some UI issues in the PC's new ultrawide mode, Auto HDR being re-enabled on Xbox, and fixes to bugs that were causing crashes on some platforms. Some bugs still remain, however, and the update may have re-broken mods that were patched since the previous update.

PATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5 Display Settings

Thanks to your feedback, we’ve been able to implement the ability to control your graphic fidelity and performance. We highly recommend you run with the default settings but now you can change your options to better fit your playstyle and display.

Frame Rate Target

Frame Rate Target allows you to choose between 30, 40, and 60 (default). It is important to note that to select 40, your display must be able to support 120hz.

Visual and Performance Prioritization

You can now choose between Visuals and Performance (default) while trying to maintain frame rate target. If you choose Frame Rate Target of 60, we recommend selecting Performance.
